[Solved] Help with chrome

Post by LaLou »

I had Google chrome as my browser. After installing a new HD we were trying to install Adobe CS6. Browsing the computer hubby told me to delete a certain file of which I don't remember the name.
Now Chrome is gone and the browser that starts up is Yahoo. I smurf HATE yahoo, and want Chrome back.
How do I go about it? Do I uninstall what's left of Chrome and download and install it again, or can I just do that without uninstalling? Or is there another option?

If you download the chrome installer and run it, it should install over the top of the old Chrome with a new chrome install

Better fix: Get Firefox and delete Chrome forever

Do a search (right click on the windows flag in your start menu) for Chrome and it will show you what is left. When you re-install it, older files are usually over-written so that they don't cause any problems if there are still any.

Firefox is set as standard browser, you can change that in internet settings. If you start Chrome new it should also ask you if you want to set it as standard in a pop up window.

Go wash your mouth with soap.

I had Chrome reinstalled and it worked fine. Until I shut down the computer. Upon restarting Yahoo was back. Could it have anything to do with DeamonTools? Hubby installed that on my HD without prior permission from me and since then this problem occurs.
I wish I had the guts to just format that drive and tell him to find another way to install Adobe CS.

Tools like those so often try to change the browser.
Usually they only do it on during install though.
Very possible though.

It looks like it has been solved. For now. I deleted a file named "searchadventure" from the program files folder and that did the trick. For now. I'm not having very high hopes because Yahoo came back after restarting the computer before. I will let you know tomorrow if it's definitely fixed.

Another option is to open Yahoo and check all the settings. NO default, NO pop ups, NO febreeze add on stuff, basically NO to all. Ha ha ha! :)

How about NO to Yahoo?

It worked, I have Chrome back. You can lock this, Moe.
