Without being legally married, I would have to pay for plane tickets if I want to live with my husband and children when we move. I wouldn't be allowed on base unless he signs me in as a guest and escorts me every time. That would mean I would have to live off base, even in foreign countries. I would have no medical insurance.

A legal marriage is a damn good thing in my world.

Chex. All the events are because of her drunkenness. She decided that the treehouse needed some wine, and then she decided it was cold, so she lit it on fire.

Military yes - civilian - No

For us anything we try to do is bad, because we tried to buy our own home, if we lose it we're not entitled to be rehoused, if however we not tried to buy our own home we could go through a bankruptcy without losing anything - they only consider possesions worth over £500, and don't include vehicles if you need them for work - so we have nothing but the house to lose, but if the house goes so does all our stuff because we can't keep it on the street

Everything we've ever done has only made our situation worse, and the only options now are raise £500 per month above my regular wage somehow, or end up homeless. Great huh?

Damn. Not only do we have the military/civilian differences, but we also have the US/UK differences. That could make for a difficult discussion.

Meh, how can a government be so messed up that someone working his butt off can't live without financial worries?

I never knew it was anything like this until going through it, and didn't even know 2 years ago that getting married would screw us even further. It's all messed up..

Yeah, normally the screwing stops after marriage...

Hi, I decided to post my opinion BEFORE I read the topic so that my honest opinion isn't flawed...

HERE'S WHAT I THINK:
There is nothing wrong with it... People bring Religion in to it, like "God made it Man+Woman" or whatever it is supposed to be... Religion doesn't own the word 'Marriage', My parents got married in a courthouse, which under my understanding is a place of 'Law', not religion(It may be different in Denmark)

Under my understanding,
the word 'Marriage' means this:
The coming together of two people who
are best friends, and love each other very
much, can be, but does not have to, be
done in a Church or even by a Pastor(Varies between Religions).

------------------------
Now that I typed this, I will read the topic.

Hi, I, Like
chex can get pretty passionate about this topic.

Yeah, one of the kids I know is like REALLY Catholic, and she gives me that "God made men and women compatible" poutine. I was like, "Isn't God supposed to love everyone?" She didn't have a response. ;)

One small victory happened yesterday.

Just because soemthing is designed to be compatible it doesn't mean that it's the only thing that works.

Well unless god owns Microsoft and Bill Gates is just his earthly avatar..
