I was going to say May 19 (Tee's birthday as well) because I thought it was the only date that wasn't duplicated.

But I seen June 18th....

Every other date is doubled, there's 2 16ths and so on.

If there was only one 19th or 18th and one of the guys got the number it could have been figured out....

This is from an exam in Singapore. Kids are actually supposed to be able to solve this?!?!

It's definitely not what you'd expect for a 14-year-old, but it's quite a fun one.

It's dumbassed on multiple levels.

Let me set the stage for you....

Somewhere on a playground a young girl and two boys meet.

Bernard: So, Cheryl, now that we just became friends. What is your birthday???

Albert: That's a good question, Bernard!

Cheryl: How about this... I give you ten possible answers with only one being correct!

Albert: That's weird as hell Cheryl, but go on.

Cheryl provides the list.

Bernard: So .... what now?

Cheryl: I'll tell one of you the day of my birthday and the other the month! Sound like fun?

Albert: No Cheryl, you're wasting my recess time over here and we're no longer friends!

Cheryl has a problem with getting older and just doesn't want to reveal her real age. Thus nobody comes to her birthday party and she has to eat all the birthday cakes herself. She gets older, gains weight and finally becomes a crazy old cat lady.

When you sit down and think about it, the solution given does make sense. My math professor friend came up with the same solution, just worded slightly differently.

Spoiler Alert: it is July 16.

"Hey, what month did she give you because she told me it was the 16th"
"Well she told me July, so there we go! July 16"

Its not that hard if they both know Part of it!

Why couldn't it have been in May? I still don't understand how May got ruled out.
Also the 14th, how did that get ruled out?

They aren't allowed to tell each other what they were told. So each knowing half only works when you think of what bits you need to complete the date and know that with the other half you will be correct.

You see how odd and complicated this is, right? So why would they put this in a test?

It seems more like the old,"One of us always lies, and one of us always tells the truth. with one question, how can you tell which is which?" sort of logic puzzle.

I must be very stupid then. There are three numbers that have to be added to make 30, but one can only use odd numbers. Three odd numbers added together make an odd number.
These are not legitimate math questions. These are riddles. Riddles do not belong in an exam.

It's a trick question - there's no need for logic or skill. It's not really a fair one for an exam, unless you were sitting your GCSE in being a smartarse.

Actually, my teacher loves (rebus) riddles, so she included it in the exams...
I could have perfected the exam if it wasn't included... :(

But it's not testing your knowledge of the material. As a bonus question is one thing, but to lose points for it? I'd be pissed.
