Re: Isn't it ironic...
So I know "ironic" is one of the most commonly misused words in the English language. I never actually paid attention to this song. I will admit, I do like a few of her songs. My favorite Alanis song is "You Owe Me Nothing In Return".
But anyway, now that I've recently learned it is most often misused, I am always hesitant to say something is ironic in fear that I'm using it incorrectly. So instead I just say "funny" in replace of "ironic".
Could "Ironic" be used here?
"Funny" how I absolutely hate being alone, and yet I do nothing but try to push people away.

Re: Isn't it ironic...
No, not if you use the whole sentence.
Irony is when I would say :" Yeah, I love to be in a crowd." Because that is not true and people who really know me, would know that I hate crowds.
When you hate being alone and yet do nothing but try to push people away that is an oxymoron.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that is how I understand it to be.

And Lal, your statement would be sarcastic.
The pushing people away even with an aversion to loneliness is not oxymoronic. It is closer to ironic. On the edge of defeatism and self-fulfilling prophecy.
