I also disagree. If I am passionately upset about something and it's being said in a way that is totally supportive of me, I find it extremely endearing.

If someone says that (usually male) in most cases it is to distract someone from the original topic and doesn't take you seriously. I agree with chex.

Most. Nearly. Several. But there are exceptions. In my example, the two of you are on the same side, passionately stating your case against a third party. If one of you were to tell the other that they are cute when they are angry, it is not negative at all.

Who in the world would do such a thing? As a good friend you support the other, feel the same anger and don't have time to pay fishy compliments. Would you say that to a guy? Think about that.

I would not have created this hypothetical if it did not fit into my personality and lifestyle. Let's say I am with a girlfriend, or my brother, sitting on the couch, and we are yelling at the TV about some politician, or a bad commercial, or whatever. If we are in agreement, and I say to her,"You're cute when you are angry..." it helps calm us both down with a little humor, and is actually paying her a compliment. If I say it to my brother, it is just a silly compliment to make us both laugh. Yes, I would say it in both situations. No offense could possibly be intended in either situation, and I am sticking with my story.

But then they are not really angry. It might depend on the definition of angry or mad. I wouldn't say that to someone when having a real argument.

If I were arguing against someone, I would not do that. But if we were in agreement, I would. It all depends on whose side you are on.

I don't care if you agree with me or not. It's just as demeaning and objectifying to reduce me to "hot" or "cute" while I'm venting in anger. It belittles my opinions just the same.

Okay, you are reading into what is being said, even though I have not said it. It is NOT always demeaning or belittling, especially in the situation I described. If things were very heated, even in my little scenario, of course that kind of silly remark would not be stated. But it is not always a negative.
