Northamptonshire is renound for it's shoe making. The first references to shoe making were in 1202, in Northamptonshire, but it mainly started around 15th century.

The Northampton town Football team is still referred to as 'The Cobblers'.
In 1841 There were 1,871 Shoemakers in the town of Northampton.

The first Dr. Martens boots in the United Kingdom came out on April 1, 1960 (hence known as style 1460 and still in production today).
Originally Dr. Martens in England, were made by a number of shoe manufacturers in the Northamptonshire area.
