People leaving forums

I might as well make this a stand alone rant:

I never understood how people could leave a forum, like how do you leave a forum? Where are you going? Why do we need a goodbye topic for this? Are you going to a place where you will NEVER have access a computer?

Same with facebook, before they close their accounts they're like "Farewell everyone, remember the good times we had on facebook.... like the one time we lol'd at a funny picture, or that time you poked me, remember when I poked you back?"

Are you moving to Antarctica????

Why can't people just stay a member and POST LESS

They have to make a dramatic "farewell everyone thread"

Then it's almost like a creepy online funeral.

I don't get it, I understand if you get busier in life, but just maybe make a notification that you'll be busier and not posting less. What's with the dramatic farewell forever crap?

I always get really riled up at this. On another site people always want to delete their accounts, which isn't actually possible, and I'm always saying to them "Leave your account. You may want it later..."

Then they always say "Shut up, *****" (only without the *'s)

Yeah, it's on another site, people keep mailing me and asking me effing questions about deleting their accounts.

Sadly on the other site they think i can help them just cos i'm a mod. I wanna tell them all to F*** off but aren't allowed cos it's a child-friendly site.

Anyway, people leaving forums really annoys me, like I wanna kill them if they go around posting everywhere "How do I delete my account?" Like, get a grip and just say you're offline for a while ONCE, then go away!

I didn't do any of this when I left.

I just thought "meh, this isn't fun anymore", and then I left, just like that.
I even promised to be more active right before leaving. XD

But now I'm back :O

Reason why to the big question: For 1: If you want to go away, FOREVER, that means that you didn't have any good times, and that the forum was obviously not for you. In other words you can't say stuff like "like the one time we lol'd at a funny picture, or that time you poked me, remember when I poked you back?", it's just "I had a bad time here. Period". For 2: it's not nice just disappearing, so it would be nicer just to say, "hey I'm leaving" before abandoning the forum.
