Hindsight

Hindsight is not always 20/20. In fact, with an active imagination Hindsight can become yet another demon to torment you in your moments of doubt. Sure, a conversation could have gone a certain way, but it didn't. And just because you have what feels like the right thing to say now does not mean that it would have been better or worse to say at the moment it happened.

People are naturally self-critical though, and it's the desire for perfection that makes people think over situations that didn't turn out as well as they'd hope and say that with hindsight they would have acted differently. A better way to look at it though would be as a way of learning from your 'mistakes', although I wouldn't count not saying/doing something with a good outcome as a mistake necessarily.
