Well, there's food colouring, and food colouring.
Some food colours are natural, like E100ii, which is turmeric, a yellow colour, often used as spice in Indian food.
Or E150 a-d which is nothing else then caramel. You know, sugar that has turned golden brown. E 160e: paprika, a red colour. (There are more....)
And there are artificial colours. The blue ones are all artificial.
Conclusion: Not all colours are per definition bad for you.

I honestly don't know anything about food coloring. I didn't know it was remotely bad for you until I started reading Chex and Effie going back and forth. :|

Yeah, Effie is right about it not being good. It can cause behavioral issues in children. I only use a few drops here and there. I just love giving Effie shazam!. ;) :<3:

I stopped chewing Wrigleys Juicyfruit gum because they felt the need to add Yellow #5 to it. Make it yellow instead of gum colored. Yellow #5 is among the worst offenders in the crazy bad for you chemicals.

I say rather put more (natural) flavour in it, which lasts longer instead of stupid colour!

Yellow Lake #5 is made with aluminium which has been tied to such things as Altzheimers, ADD, and other emotional/personality disorders. It affects the way vitamins and minerals are stored in and accessed by the brain. Anything that tweaks your brain is no good, in my opinion.

Oh wow that's crazy! They like...use food coloring a lot in kindergarten and elementary school...at least they did when I was that young. XD And now I am finding myself rummaging through some of my favorite snacks to eat to see if there is artificial coloring. I have enough psychological problems. But so far so good! Everything I have says natural colors Luke carrot and blueberry juices.

Yeah! Ya know why more companies don't use natural pigments? Because they are not bright enough. Seriously. Market research shows that consumers like their food to look like the picture on the box, but natural food does not look like that. So, they put all kinds of non-food in the food to make it look more like food.

Don't pick a fight, Effie. Until recently, nobody knew anything was wrong with this stuff.

:<3: Effie, you never offended me with it. I started the topic because I figured it would make you laugh.

I figure, yes it's bad, but it didn't kill me and I used to drink blue milk on a regular basis. If a drop of green food coloring in my kid's milk makes Halloween morning more fun, and decorating cakes gives us something fun to do together, then the occasional food coloring is okay.
