Stupid broken car and it's stupid brokeness

I took my car to the shop to get checked out today. The mechanic focused on my check engine light, but my car also shakes when I brake. He said that the shaking is likely warped rotors, and my light is on because of the transmission pressure. He recommended someone else for the transmission. Any guesses as to how much this will set me back?

Chex breaks her laptop... chex breaks her car... chex just isn't gonna touch anything for a while.

Well depending on the car, the brakes will be around $300 plus whatever their rates are for working on cars.
I know this because I ordered my brake pads and rotors Friday night.
I only paid $250, so I'd assume that on general they would be around $300

No clue on the transmission. Haven't had to deal with that part of my car yet.

Jeep? Front rotors, 67 each. Pads, 35 for the set. if they try to make you get calipers, they are almost 80 each. Labor is approx. 80/hr and it is a 2 hour job, minimum. Not really, but that is how they charge.

I wish you had more car savvy friends up there. or lived closer.

I used to have a car savvy friend, but apparently "you're irreplaceable" is a load of horse shazam!.

I do have a good mechanic, who I trust at least.

Trust is so very important. It is the basis of this movie with Hugo Weaving called,"Proof"

I was reading that getting my taillight fixed would cost me between $300 and $400. It ended up being $108.

The electronic problems with my transmission will run me about $900. Then they can check for mechanical problems. Kill me now.

Oh, I forgot to add that you can ignore the transmission for a while. It will still basically work.
BoGZ had to get rid of his old Cadillac because of electronic/transmission issues. but in his case, it made the car undriveable. For you, it seems like some of the advanced features may be gone, but basic function is still there.

It has no pickup, and had a bit of trouble turning over when I started it today. I can manage it. I'm just upset that I won't get to take my kids to New Orleans like I've been wanting to.

Cars can be so expensive to repair. And then there's the question if it's worth the investment, sorry to hear that it's such a pain in the bottom.
