The Official Books Thread

Post by Yaz Pistachio »

I thought there should be a thread to coincide with "The Official Movie Thread".

So, discuss your favorite books here, and whatever you are reading.

I'm reading Eclipse (the third book in the Twilight Series) for the third time over again. When I'm finished with that, I'm going to read Breaking Dawn.

I recently came across a book called "The Religion" By Tim Willocks. The book actually talks about many facts that took place in the 1500's but the main characters are fictional. In other words its a Historical Fiction novel. all the events that took place that were not directly affected by the main characters are true. It is by far one of the best books I have ever read and I would suggest it to anyone.

Hmm, I'll look for it.

I also read the Inkheart Series a while ago, (Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath), and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy stories.

I know I have spoken about this author before. His name is Terry Goodkind. He is the writter of the series called the sword of truth. I own ever book in that series and he is by far the best author I have ever come across. His attention to detail makes even the landscape come to life. Very little in his books is left for the imagenation to come up with which can be bad at times but the stories he writes and the way he writes them grabs and holds your attention to the very end.

its about a young man in his early 20's by the name of Richard Cypher. he is a woods guide in a land called hartland. The man he believes is simply a crazy old family friend ( By the name of Zed ) is actually one of the most powerful wizards in existance. No one knows this but But Zed himself and the third main character called Kahlan whom has magical powers of her own. Back in Kahlans own country (Where Zed came from with Richard when Richard was a new born) an evil tyrant is trying to take over Kahlan goes to Hartland to find Zed and have him appoint a Seeker. Richard ends up being the one appointed seeker, however Richard has no skill with a sword or battle. he is simply a wood guide or so he thinks. I'm afraid to say to much more that would spoil the book

They came out with a tv series that do the books no justice. However all my friends who have not read the books thought the series was great.

The last really good book I read, that I couldn't put down was called "Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal", which coincidentally pretty much sums up the plot as well. Definately not for people who are super-religious, but if you have a scence of humour, it was an amazing book that was surprisingly touching at some parts. That was by Christopher Moore.
The last book I read was "Got Fight?" by Forrest Griffin. It was funny as hell, but it was a book that really could decide what it wanted to be, sort of an auto-biography or a how-to fight book, but it was still a really funny read, if nothing else.
And I said "Baby you're lookin' good",
That's when I noticed her legs were wood...

I recently finished Fragrant Palm Leaves which is a collection of journal entries by a prominent Vietnamese Buddhist [Thich Nhat Hanh] written in the early sixties before the Vietnam war really got too crazy. It was a tumultuous period in time all around the world, especially in his homeland, yet through the chaos he had some fantastic insights into modern Buddhism.

I am currently reading a book called,"How Not to Die" written by Dr G. She is a forensic pathologist and in the book she points out the many ways people died earlier than they needed to and how it could have been avoided.

I recently read 'About A Boy' by Nick Hornby. I still haven't seen the film, but need to. It was a funny book though, I recommend it for a kinda light read.

I also recently re-read Different Seasons by Stephen King which is probably my favourite book. I recommend it to everyone in the world who can read.
