Which one would you pick?
OMG! Yesterday was 'Make your mind up time!' Voting day for the UK Prime Minister.
I'm not going to get too political here, but this was the choice, and not one of them really shone out for me.
Which one would you pick? I mean seriously, lol.
our current Prime Minister!......or or
Not one party has a majority and now it seems that there is going to be a 'Hung Parliament'
I don't even know what that means? There hasn't been one since 1974! I was only ten then!
Which one would you pick then?

Re: Which one would you pick?
I like election nights and I like the BBC, so guess what I did last night until 4:30 in the morning?!
Hey Blondie, are you serious about not knowing what hung parliament means?? It means there is no overall majority for a single party and you need to form a coalition in order to have a government with a stable parliament majority. Seemingly unknown to the UK , this is the common way to establish governments in most European democracies. Germany for instance always has had coalition governments following World War II (referring to the FRG here, not the GDR obviously, although even THEY claimed to formally have a coalition government!). There was only one occasion since 1949 where a single party had an overall majority (the Conservatives back in 1957) - and even then they preferred to form a coalition government, because Germans tend to be sceptic about single-party-governments since we had only one party left about 70 years ago (ironically you had your final coalition government so far during those years!). So I am a little surprised that British politicians now talk about "the bankruptcy of out electoral system" and whatnot. You invented Parliaments, so I somehow expected you would deal with this situation more calmly.
No idea whom I would have voted for, I don't know them well enough to tell. Care to tell us where your vote went and why???

Re: Which one would you pick?
Hi Ardour! How are you? Well I hope? I haven't chatted to you for ages!
As I've already said, I understand what a 'Hung Parliament' is of course, (not any one political party having a majority)
but what I don't understand is what the outcome of this might be, what it means for our country and any impact this might have?
I think most UK people are concerned because this hasn't happened since 1974, and everything seems quite uncertain and unkown. They seem to think it would be bad for our country, because we usually have a majority.
From what you are saying, it doesn't sound like such a bad thing?
People are now discussing which parties need to form a coalition.
As for who I voted for, well that would be telling, wouldn't it?
I did say that I didn't want to get too political really.
Let's just say I tried to vote tactically, to avoid a Hung Parliament! LOL
Oh, and I didn't vote for the present Governement, and I was really not that impressed with any of the candidates standing for Prime Minister.
Local candidates are a total different matter, and of course they are the candidates who we actually vote for!
Who would I choose as Prime minister?
Nick Clegg was a very exciting choice but I knew he wouldn't gain a majority!
From all this information you can probably deduce which way I voted.
Anyway from the photos, which one would you choose?
The point I was trying to make was that they all seem as bad as one another really.
Best of a bad bunch!
And I was trying to keep it light. LOL

Re: Which one would you pick?
Oh sorry, I didn't mean to be some smarty-pants! My point was that coalition government is totally common in other places.
Judging from the photos I agree with Effie!
And when I hear the name Gordon Brown I just canβt help thinking of that old Stranglers song:

Not necessarily. Forcing two or more parties to come to terms with each other *might* result in a more widespread projection of what the voters want. You always get a lot of political horsetrading and compromises which can be a good thing depending on whether they argue about constructive plans for the country or just care about gaining or retaining political power.Blondie wrote:From what you are saying, it doesn't sound like such a bad thing?
Seems to be the same thing everywhere!Blondie wrote:The point I was trying to make was that they all seem as bad as one another really.

Totally based on looks you understand.

My sentence was a 'double negative' "it doesn't sound like such a bad thing?" In other words "it sounds like a good thing?"
Te he ~ I have found another photo of Nick Clegg, just for Effie. xxx

Hey, I was just trying to keep it light!
Stop confusing me or else I'll change my vote to the "Monster Raving Loony William Hill Party"!
Edit: Which reminds me of the Monty Python Election Night Special...

I love Monty Python! In fact, seemingly almost all the TV shows I like are British.Ardour wrote: Edit: Which reminds me of the Monty Python Election Night Special...

Based on looks alone, I'd choose the third guy. I'm not gay, but the third guy is the only one who looks normal.

Well, it looks like the third guy is the one who the other 2 want.
PLEASE middle guy (David Cameron) make a deal with third guy (Nick Clegg) so we don't get stuck with Mr Evil. I mean, Gordon Brown.

Re: Which one would you pick?
Gordon Brown looks tired. He should retire.
David Cameron looks like he's crapping his pants.
From looks alone, nick Clegg is the ione I'd vote for.

One report said on Friday that there was a squatter in number 10.
