Is it better to tell someone the truth, knowing it will hurt them deeply, or is it better to lie/keep quiet, and spare them pain? What they don't know can't hurt them, or honest to a fault?

I wish i could tell the truth in any situation,cause i have been raised with the idea of not telling ppl the truth that might hurt them.But things you dont tell comes out in the open sooner or later and i always regret not saying it when i should have.

The timing is important. Eventually the truth must come out, but hopefully you can wait until the situation is less awkward and painful.

If you only tell the truth to ease your conscience I wouldn't do it. In the long run it's better to tell the truth, it will come out in the end anyway. Generally knowing the truth is always preferable but as Jon said, it vrey much depends on the situation and who is involved.

And how do you know it will hurt them. You might feel hurt in that situation, but maybe they don't.
Also maybe by not teling the truth it will hurt them even more.

It is also depends on the person . Some ppl can take it easy and thank-you for hurting them by telling'em the truth , others , like my best friend , and like me , would be very angry and hurtful .

I'm sure if someone was having a baby they didn't know about, I'm sure that they should be told as soon as possible.

But if my brother forgot about a pet cricket, and it dies, I'm sure I'd just leave him to not remember and not be sad.

If you're pretty sure you can get away with it, then lie. If there's a chance of getting caught, just tell the truth and deal with the crap up front
