Purists of any religion pray for peace. It is the zealots of every religion that resort to violence.

Malcolm X was a powerful force for Black Islam. Then he went to Mecca. He realized that all people are brothers and sisters, regardless of skin color. He went about from then on preaching equality. Those who were thriving on the power that comes with fear did not like this, and plotted to have him killed.

Sometimes I wonder why people can't differentiate between religion and fanatism. Why is a mosque equated with terrorism? People even say that islam is an unwanted religion in the USA. Isn't religious freedom a fundamental right written down in the constitution?
Thinking in stereotypes creates hate; people are different. There might be a small percentage of zealots who use religion as an excuse to exert violence. Most religions teach morals along the same line, treasure life and live peacefully.
I doubt the intention to build this mosque is to mock anyone but to have a place where you can pray. And remember.

The Daily Show had a good analogy: Muslims are allowed to put a mosque near Ground Zero, just like Catholics can build a church next to a playground.
