technology and books

What do you think? Are books out dated? In a world with Kindles, are libraries a waste of space? If we can download a book with the click of a button, should we find a more practical way to use space taken up by printed books?

We should most certainly NOT get rid of books. When your power goes out, you can still read. When you are in a remote part of the world, you can still read.

Only new books smells good.
Its a different experience reading from a book and reading from an i' thing or pc.
but there are places when techno' book would be better and other places book book would be better.

Wow, it took me 10 min' to write it..

We need books in case the power fails. Also you can't read a pc in bed.

But you can read a Kindle in bed. They're about the size of a book.

That said, you can pry my books out of my cold dead hands. ;)

Iam not a book freak ,but i know that ppl who are a book s freaks hate the idea od techno' books. they'd pay much more money to get the real book.
I don't think the tachno' books will take over the ordinary books, never.

I think in places where technology will suffice, there is no need to take up space with books or libraries, but we should not get rid of books altogether because there are other times/places were they're more appropriate. Especially since as we all know technology is very unreliable especially at the times when you need it most. If you pick up a book there's not much change of it crashing or the pages failing to load :D

If they gave us computer textbooks at school we'd all hack into the internet on them.

The others are right... the FUN of reading is reading the book itself... not knowing what it contains!

To me a book is like a gift... you don't know what it contains until you open it!

I got my hubby a e-reader for Christmas. A very sensible gift, for I'm the one who uses it the most. :grill:
I love the way I can read it in bed without having to turn on the other side every page.
I can put it down and keep reading it, without the pages turning by itself.
I also love that I can read stuff that is normally unavaillable to ordinary readers, like Aristotle, Plato or Sophocles. I would have to got to a university library if I want to read those. Now I just have to download them.
I am a book freak, and I still love the smell of real books. So I find that I have best of both worlds, an e-reader and a bookshelf full of old fashioned books.

Oh, and you can't hack into the internet with an e-reader.

Holy Charleton Heston chex!

I can see the e-book readers taking over as the predominant means of reading, but I don't think traditional books will even go away. I'm kinda surprised these haven't come out sooner, honestly.

Shame :(

I thought about asking my parents for an e-Reader for my birthday but I wasn't sure, so I didn't.
