Re: FAINTING GOATS!!!
The goats are not really fainting, as in loosing conciousnous. It's a genetic disorder called myotonia congenita. When startled, younger goats will stiffen and fall over. Older goats learn to spread their legs or lean against something when startled, and often they continue to run about in an awkward, stiff-legged shuffle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fainting_goat
I don't think it's funny. I never think it's funny to startle someone, or to startle an animal. I think it's cruel.

Re: FAINTING GOATS!!!
If a bear or mountain lion startled the goats, they would have the same reaction.
When people surprise the goats, it is not malicious, it is more scientific.
The goats are fine, you can all relax.

Yes, and they would die because they can't run away.GreatZot wrote:If a bear or mountain lion startled the goats, they would have the same reaction.
It's not scientific if someone creeps up behind you and yells:"BOO." It can physically hurt to be startled like that. I do consider it malicious to scare people or animals just to have a laugh.GreatZot wrote:When people surprise the goats, it is not malicious, it is more scientific.
It's a genetic defect. Yes they are fine, but in the wild these goats would never survive, let alone be able to procreate. I am relaxed, but I'll never be ok with being startled on purpose by others. Really, if you want a fight with me, that's exactly the thing to do to me. It happened to me a few times to often and I would really, really get mad if it happened. It's cruel.GreatZot wrote:The goats are fine, you can all relax.

Re: FAINTING GOATS!!!
this isn't sad at all! This is actually their natural defense to survive in the wild. The majority of animals that hunt aren't going to eat an animal that they think just died of a heart attack, they want live meat. Also these animals do not act like they are upset of depressed in the least. They actually look very content and happy. Is it cruel to ride a horse? Is it cruel to make a cat chase a string. I assure you all these animals are not abused or mistreated. They actually startle each other more often then people startle them.

You weren't around for the first abortion thread. It was pretty fantabulous. So much so that Clarence deleted, it.
