I've just read this article but I'm confused right now. I think there is a great deal of irony in it. Am I right? Or is this serious?

Due to my bias against The Onion, I don't think it's completely serious.. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the ages of the Students(Either raising American ages, or lowering Chinese ages) to make the difference in in age wider.

The Onion is a satirical newsletter. The American education system is not quite that bad. I have seen it get worse in the short time since I was a student. I do hope we can fix it before it becomes un-fixable.
